 Scripture – Acts 19:8-19

18 Many who became believers confessed their sinful practices. 19 A number of them who had been practicing sorcery brought their incantation books and burned them at a public bonfire. The value of the books was several million dollars.[a]

O – Paul was preaching like crazy and doing all kinds of miracles.  Word got around and people were saved because of the good news of Christ.  Once this happened they confessed their sins and got rid of the sin that had grabbed a hold of them.  In this case it was sorcery (witchcraft/spells), these people publicly burned their books. 

A - As believers the Holy Spirit begins to work in our lives from the moment we ask Jesus into our hearts.  Through the Holy Sprit God shows us the things we need to get rid of.   God wants us to hold on to what is pure and what honors Him.  We need to release what is blocking us from fully experiencing what God has for us. This could be a number of things: music, books we’re into, web sites that don’t honor, relationships, etc.  I need to remember  to pass everything I see, hear and do through the “is this honoring God filter.”

P – Dear Lord, thank you for your mercy, thank you that even though we mess up so much and so badly you still want us to have a relationship with you.  Lord, please help me to remember to honor you with what I see, hear and do.  I want to be obedient to your word and what you have called me to do.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
